Ferries help preserve Ocracoke’s charm

P5250012

Family and friends come and go all year long. The ferry boats are a big part of life out here and other than flying or swimming. It’s our only way on or off the island, which also helps keep the island the way it is.

There are no franchise fast food or stores out here. Only family businesses are allowed. There’s always a smile and a tear at the ferry docks because there’s always a loved one coming or going.

Ocracoke: A great place for kids

ChristianT;Ocracoke 004I’ve been so blessed to have been able to bring my kids out here through the years. I couldn’t imagine a better place to bring your kids and feel more comfortable as a parent. There is a peace of mind that only a parent knows when you can take your eyes off your kids and know that they are safe. The island has always offered this to me because there are only two ways on or off island and there are only about 500 permanent residents. Most everyone knows who’s who so I’ve always told my kids, “once on the island, stay out as late as you wish, go where you want, only one rule… don’t get on a boat.”
There's nothing like a winter holiday at the beach....
There’s nothing like a winter holiday at the beach….

I’ve always dreamed of growing up myself on a beach and harbor, and this island lets me give my kids what I’ve always wanted for myself.

The ocean offers so much wonder and excitement for kids and adults and as the photos show, some things like horse rides on the beach and aerial view from plane rides are the kind of things that few places can offer.

Re-siding the house

When the building is complete this fall, it will provide a vacation getaway like few easily reachable places can offer for several families at a time, as well allowing for room and board for my own family and friends as they come and go.

Welcome to our house

Our house is located on Ocracoke Island in North Carolina.  We’ve completed renovations and it has been available fore rent since 2016. Read the history of the house.

We also are working through the licensing needed to make it possible to provide charter flights to our house or to any other destination along the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina. Learn more about our inexpensive charter flights to OBX.

20160504_161246The island is only 3 miles wide at its widest point so from the top of our building you can see beach and ocean in every direction.
